THE CONCEPT OF 10-N-QUALITY PEDIATRIC ANESTHESIA

Safetots.org initiative aims to focus on the safe conduct of pediatric anesthesia and to define the safe use of anesthesia in young children.

Concept

General practice points of good perioperative paediatric practice are required and should focus on maintaining homeostasis throughout the perioperative period (1-3). Quality conduct of anesthesia in children includes avoidance of fear and pain as well as maintenance of normotension, normal heart rate (cardiac output), normovolemia, normoxemia, normocarbia, normal electrolytes, normoglycemia and normothermia. One of the greatest challenges is the development and introduction of accepted standard operating protocols for common paediatric scenarios that will result in an optimal outcome for the child.
